Russian eyelash extensions have become a popular trend in the beauty sector for the last few years. As the name suggests, Beauticians first began using them in Russia around a decade ago. They provide a fuller, more voluminous look than classic extensions, which add plenty of length but do little to help very sparse lashes, which is the result many clients are after.
Full lashes frame the eyes a lot better than sparse long lashes. Furthermore, full lashes appear natural, rather than looking like you have “had your lashes done”.
Most people want to know what are Russian lashes and how they differ from standard extensions. The big difference between classic extensions and Russian extensions is that with Russian volume lashes, a single lash consists of a group of 2 to 6 very lightweight lashes. One Russian lash is bonded on one host lash, so each of your single lashes becomes several lashes.
The procedure involves isolating every lash during the standard one-to-one eyelash extension procedure; they are not applied over several lashes. The combined weight of a group of Russian lashes is equal to or the same as (depending on the number) a standard individual lash extension. Furthermore, although Russian lashes are made with synthetic mink, the noticeable distinction is they are extremely fine grade lashes.
Many people have few natural lashes or sparse lashes and desire to add fullness. Before the Russians developed their technique, a lash extension beautician could only improve sparse lashes by applying a heavier, fuller single lash. This looked somewhat unnatural, but it could also damage the original lash by adding too much weight, thus worsening the problem. The only other solution would be false eyelashes, which look considerably fake in most cases.
You can go for a variety of distinct looks with Russian volume lashes. You can choose a natural or full-on glamour look which usually gives the impression of fake lashes. However, the glamour look is en-vogue at the moment and looks fabulous if you like a dramatic appearance.
When you book with Designer Lashes of London, you can choose how much volume you want. We have six levels of choice. The lashes start at the 2D level, where two lashes are attached to each natural lash. You can decide to go up to 6D lashes per original lash. We will help you determine if the level you select is suitable for your natural lashes.
Volume lashes create a feathery, soft appearance to the eyes. They cause minimal damage to the eyelashes because of their lightweight. Russian volume lash extensions will fill in the spaces between sparse lashes in a way that is impossible with traditional eyelash extensions.
Russian lashes add a richer dark look to your lashes than the more classic ones. The dark shade eliminates the need for mascara. You might think that the extra volume gained with Russian lashes involves using additional lash glue, but Russian lashes need less adhesive. Another significant benefit of all types of lash extensions is how they make you feel. You can look good from the moment you wake up without applying makeup. If you are going out and don’t want to do a full makeup job, you will still look fabulous because you have your ‘eyes on’.
It usually takes between 2 and 2 hours 30 minutes to apply a complete set of Russian lashes. You will not experience pain or discomfort during the application. Clients typically find the procedure very relaxing, and many doze off during the process.
Like classic extensions, Russian lashes will last for around 4 to 6 weeks before requiring a refill. During the first 24 hours, you are advised not to get them wet, as this can prevent the adhesive from properly drying. After the first day, wetting them should not cause complications. Many people tend to be more cautious when showering, which is a good idea as it can help keep the extensions in place for longer.
You can swim with Russian eyelash extensions, but chlorine and saltwater can affect your eyelash extension adhesive. So we recommend washing your eyelashes as soon as you finish your swim with cotton wool and a safe, specialised lash extension cleanser to ensure they last as long as possible. You should avoid swimming for the first 48 hours after a treatment. Avoid rubbing the eyes as much as possible, as this can loosen or remove the lashes prematurely.
Although we are biased, as clients are the backbone of our business, it is imperative only to use an experienced eyelash technician to apply Russian Volume Lashes. If you go to someone who does not have the skill or adequate expertise, you may not get the results you are after and could damage your original lashes. When choosing a salon, find one that is well established and ask the technician how long they have performed treatments. Also, ask friends for their recommendations for a professional salon.
Cheapest is not always best when it comes to beauty treatments, and the most economical salon may not be your most suitable option to get Russian lashes applied. As you will be wearing them for 4 to 6 weeks, it is worth paying extra for a well-done job.
Also, remember the first application is the most expensive. Follow-up fill-ins cost less, so you won’t be paying the same amount every four to six weeks if you decide you like your new lashes so much that you do not want to be without them. However, if you don’t keep up with regular fill-ins, you will have to start again.
